DIY Kitchen Makeover: Backsplash and Accessories
Once we had the cabinets complete and reinstalled I was ready to finally finish the Kitchen makeover and make it complete with a corresponding backsplash and above the cabinet accessories.

When we purchased our floor tile, I also picked out a corresponding backsplash. White Carrera gray marble in a subway tile pattern. Super stunning. I also picked out a pale gray grout. However, you can get some pretty amazing ones for a lot less.
I originally was going to go with an all white subway glossy tile but decided not to. One reason was that we just did not have any room in our budget to replace our current countertops.
They are granite countertops, in a beigy black mixed composite type of granite ( I call it man-made granite) simply because it doesn’t look like a natural stone rather more like stone bits compacted together to make “granite”.
Whatever, can you tell it’s not my favorite. Maybe one day the funds to change them will present itself but for now beigy it is. Or maybe become brave for a cheaper alternative. I am just not sure though.
Once the cabinets were finished, I must admit that I did hate the countertops a little less. So it’s still growing on me. And because our appliances are black, which we choose when we first purchased this home, it does work nicely together.
Okay enough on the countertop rant.
The backsplash…
Oh, the pretty backsplash. Once we installed this, which we also did ourselves, I was completely in love with the kitchen.
We opted not to a finishing piece on the edge of the tile because we like the cleaner lines.

We did a very small line of caulk to “finish” and secure the edge of the tile.
To make it straight as possible, we used painters tape to make the perfect line. Then before it dried, we removed the tape.
Lastly, I purchased some farmers market signs and baskets to decorate the ledges above the cabinets.
In the past, I left this space empty but now felt as if it needed a little bit of flavor.
Hubby and I also just happened to go through a garage sale nearby about the same time he finished the backsplash and I got about 7 pieces of copper kitchen pieces to mix in the decor. I basically kept the same colors as the cabinets, using only white or driftwood color bins and baskets.
Then the copper pieces were placed randomly to tie in with the countertops. I also purchased a magnolia wreath and some faux greenery to tie in the farmhouse vibe.
Here’s another before and after picture just see where it started and finished.
and after…
I just love how it turned out. What do you think, leave me a comment and let me know? Have you done a remodel lately?
