DIY Paint Stick Art
Have you ever made any art using paint sticks? Today I have a tutorial showing you how to make Paint Stick Art!
A few weeks ago I was looking to update the boys’ bathroom into a theme that was more of a “boys theme”. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, they are little boys after all. But, I wanted to give it an update from our mixed match shower curtain, rugs, and towels that we got from our wedding some 9 years ago.
I found some inspiration from some another blogger. So I thought I’d share my version of some of the artwork I created for my boys’ bathroom.
She originally purchased her artwork from Minted.com and while I loved them, I just wanted to spend a little less when it came to artwork in the bathroom. So DIY for this girl it was.
I decided that I would create my own artwork in a design app I had on my phone. This was completely easy to do since I could play around with shapes and colors. I chose to use the Rhonna Designs app to create the posters I wanted.

The app had an adventure theme that was perfect and I mixed and matched the designs with text. Then I added my boys’ names to the design and saved them into my phone.
Once that was complete I emailed the images to my self and downloaded them for printing.
I chose to print the designs on a heavy cardstock to give them a little more stability. You could probably use a heavy cardstock, I just chose to use what I had on hand in my craft office.
Next, I got 4 paint sticks from the local hardware store for FREE. You can’t beat that! I asked my hubs to trim off the part of the sticks that indents. So he cut them all down to the same size. The size measure just a little past 8 1/2 inches.
The length is ideal because you want it to pass the cardstock just enough to create a border or frame so to speak on your cardstock printed images.
Once the stick was cut, I got out some wood stain, also I had this on hand, so this project is turning out to be practically free.
I stained the backs of the cut paint sticks, it only a took a few minutes, and I did this literally in between packing for a week-long New York trip with my husband.
I wiped the excess stain away from the sticks and let dry a few minutes.
You can probably let dry for a little longer, but once it was dry to the touch, I went ahead and stapled the cardstock prints to the back side of the paint sticks using a staple gun.
Then using some string, I wrapped about 4-5 times around the end and secured with clear tape on the back of the stick to make a hanging string.
Once that was completed I used a tiny nail to nail onto the wall of the boys’ bathroom.
I just love how they turned out!!! Super cute right?? And FREE!!!!
The best part is that I have uploaded these designs to the resource library for your own use. Complete the form below to get the password to my resource library. It’s Free.
