Finding Joy in the Little Things
Over the past few weeks there has been some crazy things happening. Nothing really too crazy for me and my life. But, rather to others around me. And without going into details of the kinds of events, I can only seem to sum it all up with LIFE IS SHORT to be ANYTHING ELSE but HAPPY!
I am a very HAPPY girl, so don’t get me wrong. But I sure would like to see different things occur or do things a little differently than the way I do them now. And, while I’m working on them, I know I am in this process of life. I think Ariel from the “Little Mermaid” put it best in her song, “one day I’ll be part of that world”. I’m using that in reference to the world or ideal life I have in my head. So while I am in “this process” I think it is also extremely important to trust the process.
Enjoy the process that is getting you down the road of the journey you are on. Not to get frustrated if you get set back. Not to get upset when it doesn’t go your way. And not to scream and shout with a situation goes completely awry. No one said it would be easy. But while you are on this road, enjoy the journey.
I’ve been thinking… (some of you may think that might be dangerous – ha ha!) But is is true, I have been, and well I’ve decided that I need to find JOY in the little things going on all around me. Even in the littlest of things I may not like. I need to find the joy from within them. Celebrate those little joys. Oh those sweet little things that make the world a better place in the day to day.
I wanted to share with you how I have been finding my joy, in the everyday, day to day, plus how you can also find your joy.
- Make it your Mindset
We sometimes get wrapped up in the nitty gritty…. even the gritty that isn’t pretty. The things we cannot control. We lose ourselves, and our minds at times in these petty things that do not matter. Instead, change your mindset, what’s positive about it? Could it be worse? The answer is probably so, it probably could be worse that it really is and since it is not, then it is not all that bad. Not all is lost. Change your mind, change everything.
2. Find an experience that grows you.
This one is particularly for those who may be in situations they must do everyday that they hate. Maybe it is a job you are stuck in until something else better comes along. Maybe it is a relationship you’re working on growing or being patient with to turn out for the better. One of the best things you can do is to take your mind off it, give it a break and find something else to begin thinking about. Maybe it is a new hobby, maybe it is a hot air balloon ride that shows you the earth and the sky. Whatever it is, find it, and allow yourself to change with it as it influences you in a positive way.
3. Don’t Let anyone steal your Joy
Okay, this sounds fairly simple, however you would be surprised how much this gets missed. I’m guilty of it myself. People’s comments, reactions, and everything in between that robs you of your internal peace and joy is not worth your time. So don’t even entertain it. Don’t let them have it. It’s your JOY, and no one can really take it from you, so don’t let them. You don’t like what I have to say, fine, move on. Don’t like my shirt, fine, I’m the one wearing it anyway. Whatever it is, if its negative, hurtfully sarcastic, backhanded or just down right mean, don’t let it get to you. Sure we could all stand to use constructive criticism. But, my point is take it for what its worth, improve on it and move on. Don’t let it get your down and set up camp inside deep in your head. You are strong and beautiful. You can do anything. No one can stop you, and they certainly can take away that joy.
4. Surround yourself with positive people.
You know the saying “misery loves company”, well it is completely true. In fact, just the other day I was feeling a little grumpy towards a situation and just wanted to vent. And I knew exactly the people in my circle to go vent to. Because I knew they would partake in my little ole pitty party with me. Now, why do you think that is? I will tell you why, because they can relate and complain right along with me. Instead, try finding the person who is always positive to vent you. It is tough, but I bet they do not let you to vent long. Just enough to get it off your chest, so that you can move on from it, but only to stop you form drowning in your own silly little sorrows. Instead they are lifting you up, singing praises of the good things in your life, and practically making you chin-up and suck-it up to keep moving forward. Take a look at your friends, and constantly surround yourself with those singing those sweet praises.
5. Be Humble.
My husband is always reminding me to stay humble. It is really the best way. Count your blessings, all 1,458, 787 of them. Learning to live a humbled life is the fastest way to finding Joy. You see it is in our greatest blessings that we recognize all the little things that are great as well and powerful within our souls. It is sort of path to your spirit. The more we appreciate the things we have and get to do in our current lives, the more gifts and blessings we receive. And friends, by God’s design, it just keeps compounding from there. As the Lord’s promise, it is really the only way to live an abundant life, to have pure joy. So be humble, stay humble.
Find your joy, hold on to it tight, and never let it go.
