Happy Halloween Craft DIY
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, but for my kids, the Fall also means that Halloween is coming, and with Halloween comes dressing up in fun costumes and trick-or-treating for the candy.
My kids are the age where Halloween is fun and exciting, and it is one of the things that they have started to really enjoy year in and year out.
Now, I have to admit that Halloween is not one of my most favorite holidays. I love the Fall season. I love doing all the things like Fall decorating, using pumpkins, and even the cooler, crisp air that all of Fall brings with it.
But I’m not a big fan of Halloween.
I don’t like scary, I don’t like to go through haunted gory houses, and I’m really not a fan of skeletons and ghouls. I can’t even bring myself to use them as décor. I don’t mind the occasional cute pumpkins or jack-o-lanterns. Cute little witch houses and friendly bats are okay. But, I’m not too keen on anything more scary-looking than that. But, I do love a good Halloween Crafty DIY or two.
Blood and guts, crime scene and crazy science factories just aren’t my thing – at all.
However, since my kids are starting to enjoy the Fall season and especially Halloween. I am leaning into becoming a little more spirited when it comes to the Halloween holiday.
We took the kiddos shopping today at one of my favorite places to get seasonal decor. The Dollar Tree! I just love the Dollar Tree. Cute stuff and it is just a buck!
Here’s a quick look at our TV area we decorated. I thought the bats were really cute… you can get 200 of these here. Each kiddo also got a full-length witch or goblin to put on their bedroom door for a little Halloween fun!
What do you think? Not to bad for everything mostly being from the Dollar Tree
Now that we did the thing, and picked up a few things for our home to get into the Halloween Spirit, I thought I might try my crafting hands at a Halloween craft DIY.
So to sort of start my first few Halloween Craft DIYs off I am sharing with you my first Halloween craft.
I know, right?
I can’t believe I waited this long to actually make something that relates to Halloween.
But nonetheless, so here it is.
I decided to go ahead and make a Halloween card.
And it is a happy one! And I am giving you the downloadable cut file so that you can make your own as well completely free!
Making A Card on a Cutting Machine
I made the card using my silhouette machine. I found a couple of clip art graphics that can be purchased from Etsy. I sued a cute little witch house, bat, and Halloween moon.
I have this available for download at the bottom of this post if you want to download and cut out this card for your own use.
Halloween Card Design
For this card's design, I wanted something that was happy for Halloween.
Again, nothing scary.
I decided to go with mixed fonts with the words "Happy Halloween."
We do want it to be happy after all.
Then I found this cute clip art and bat and moon with a little witch's house, a flying bat and the moon.
Simple and cute and fun.
To create this card, you'll want to go ahead and download the SVG file from my blog.
Then upload it into your design software, whether you use a Cricut or a Silhouette, you'll want to bring the SVG cut file into your program.
Add the Registration Marks
Make sure that you add the registration marks on to your document, print it, and then load it in the machine to be cut on your cutting mat.
It is super easy.
Once it's cut, you'll need to score the card in the center so that it will fold. Then you'll need to pick out your favorite color cardstock, like black or orange, to cut a matching envelope.
Finishing the Halloween Card
Once that's cut, you'll want to score your envelope and secure the edges with glue using a glue stick and let it dry. Once dry, address and sign your and send off to whomever you wish!
I'm not sure who I'm going to be giving this card to. It is something that I actually loved creating and feel like I will be creating more cards in the future, especially for my favorite holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Keep a lookout for those!
I think these cards are super cute, and my kids might just be handing these out to their school teachers this year. They are fun. You can even pair them with a small toy or book and hand out to trick or treaters.
Let me know what you think. Do you like it? Will you be making a Happy Halloween card? Will you be adding Halloween to your fall décor this year?
