Last Minute Easter Buckets
So literally, yesterday my friend comes up to me and asks me to “save her”. Of course, I’m quite quizzed at what she needs saving for, until she then goes in how she has looked everywhere for an Easter Bucket for her son, and cannot absolutely find what she is looking for. She needs a DIY Easter Bucket for a class Egg Hunt in two days!
She wanted some sort of metal bucket or bin. And in her search, she finally decided to just go to Lowes and get a metal paint bucket, and spray paint it before bringing it to me. She brings it to me for “the saving” AKA vinyl help!
Meaning, add some vinyl and personalization to it so that it has some, you know…. pizzaz!
Of Course!! I’m your girl when it comes to that sort of thing!
And, while I’m at it, I will just whip up three more for my kiddos! It’s is a super cute genius Idea!!! Why not, they need a basket to hunt eggs at the same preschool, and this would great to use, considering that I didn’t want to send their overly sized, super nice cloth embroidered baskets. You know, those fancy schmancy baskets are for the Easter Bunny and his goodies anyway.

How to DIY Easter Buckets!!
So I needed this to be a quick project, and it was in less than 1 hour for me to complete minus a little pre plan – or thinking.Once I had a mental game plan, I whipped up 4 Easter buckets in roughly one hour, so you should be able to do the same since I’ve cut out the leg work for you.
To start, I went to my Home Depot looking for three metal buckets, but it seems they were sold out, they only had smaller ones. So for my kids, plastic it was. I was not going to waste any additional time, because again, I needed this to be quick. I had the last few orders from the shop for Easter that I would be finishing up this week, and I really didn’t have any additional extra time.
My friend brought me this bucket from Lowes, however, I purchased the plastic ones from my local home depot. I totally love the metal one much better, due to the character it has with its shape. If I had more time, I would made the few extra minute drive to Lowes to search for them.
Next up spray paint. I don’t have a picture of this but you get the idea. I did this in about 20 minutes or less while kids played on their swing set. About 15 minutes to dry before flipping over to finish painting the rest.
I then moved them to the garage to dry overnight, and to also kind of get rid of the spray paint smell. Here’s a pic of the kiddos bringing in the buckets to my work table! Cuties… they were excited to help mommy personalize their buckets!
Then, I got to work with the vinyl.
I had already made and sold some similar buckets through my shop with white bunnies, so I thought I would start with the same idea and use the same bunny as the base for this project!!
Once the bunnies were on, I cut using my Silhouette – you can get one of these cutting machines here if you don’t have one, and I cut out just a bunch of circles. I spread them out all over the buckets in coordinating colors. Each bucket had white larger dots. Then the blue buckets got green dots to coordinate, and the pink bucket got purple dots, and the green bucket got smaller blue dots to coordinate.
I then found some clip art and traced the grass clipart in the silhouette program to make the grass overlay for the bunny, and I did the same thing for the carrot. I cut the carrot into two sections and added those pieces to the buckets.
Lastly, I added the names in a coordinating color. I had some pattern vinyl in my stash, and did my daughters name in the pattern. I love the pattern, as you can see a piece of it in the picture below, however, I suggest sticky with a solid color. Hers will do for now, but it is harder to read. Such a cute pattern, but it is more for monogram usage on a solid background in my opinion.
For the pink bucket, I decided to also add some ribbons to just give it some girly flair. All that is left is some Easter Grass and plastic eggs filled with jelly beans and these kids will be ready to go!!
What do you think? I think for less than an hour, this was a pretty quick simple easy project. Total cost for one bucket was less than $7 dollars if I had to guess. I still have materials left over. The bucket is the biggest expense of it at around $4.
Anyone can do it, if you have some vinyl and a cutting machine, this is super easy. I have three of these bad boy machines, and love them all. I also run a small side business, which is why I have several. I am always personalizing something for someone.
I also have a tutorial on how to use the pic scan mat with this machine. The pic scan mat is pretty nifty, and great for projects that have images you want to get digitally but only have printed.
What kind of personalization have your done for your kids for Easter? Leave a comment and let me know. I love your comments and read each one! And as always if you enjoyed this post please share or pin to Pinterest using the buttons below!
