Poke A Pumpkin DIY Game
I love a good game or cute idea that makes celebrating any holiday fun. This year the school I work at decided to put together a Trick Or Treat event for all of the school’s staff kids. We are in a season where we have a lot of staff kids in our school. So that is a nice group of kids to have a fun event for.
One part of the event had games for kids to walk around and play to get candy. Similar to a trunk or treat except instead of being outside, we were in our school’s cafeteria.
I decided to create the “punch-a-pumpkin” game that was inspired by Pinterest. However, I decided to tweak it just a smidge and call it “Poke-a-Pumpkin”. The reason for the switch… well it just seemed less violent, and easier since I planned on using plastic cups. I could put smaller treats and candy inside and fill them back up much more quickly.
Also, if anyone punched the cups it could possibly hurt their hand, so Poke-a-Pumpkin was born.
ÂHow To Create A Poke-A-Pumpkin Game
Once you have all the materials you will need to set up an area to create. Â
in this video to see how I have it set up!I absolutely love the Dreambox setup. It really makes crafting so much more fun!
Materials:Â
- 2 foam poster boards
- tape
- clear plastic cups
- hot glue and glue gun
- orange cocktail napkins or tissue paper
- rubber bands
- Jumbo posicle sticks
- candy
Making the Poke A Pumpkin game:
First, you will want to tape the two boards together on the backside.
Then, secure them with large jumbo popsicle sticks. This helps give it support as one piece.
Then flip the entire board over to the front side and layout the cups. I used the thicker punch style cups so that the opening was wide and the bottoms were flat to secure to the board.
Make sure you space them out so that you are able to wrap the cup tops with the rubber bands. Here’s a look a the pumpkin shape before it really looks like a pumpkin. You can see how they are also spaced apart. This is intentional.
Once you have glued the cups into place, you will want to lay them flat and fill each cup with candy or treats. Then take one cocktail napkin and open it wide, cover the cup and then take the rubber band and wrap the napkin with the rubber band securing it to the cup.
Then take the napkin edges and sort of push the edges close and tuck them in towards the cup.
Now it looks more like pumpkin.
Display your game and have fun! The kids loved this and the best part was that by making two we were able to quickly refill the first. Here’s a look at the poke a pumpkin game in action.
The kids absolutely loved it.
What do you think? Would you make this? It is super easy and cheap to make.
