Christmas decorations are the first signs that the holiday season is here. If you are like me, then the first thing to go up each year is the decorations!

One of my favorite things to put up is the Christmas Village that my father gave. He used to put up an enormous village made by Department 56 in his home every year. Each and every house was purchased separately. Each had its own lighting system and details.

People from all around would visit to see his village display and Christmas decor. His house was truly a work of art at Christmas time.

I have memories of just sitting near it, looking at all the details, complementing figures and accessories. I’d imagine stories in my head of the people and the village, wondering what it is like to walk down the streets miniature style.

And I love that there is something traditional and nostalgic about it on display. The scene of the village reminds me of simple times, and when family and time together meant more than anything.
