Learn how to create this easy DIY Beaded Snowflake Hairclip inspired by the new animation short file The Jolliest Elf. This tutorial shows you how to create this beautiful hair clip to wear this holiday season.
My daughter loves watching short animation films so much. In fact, she has enjoyed watching them for quite some time. One of her favorite things to do it watch one or two quick animation films just before bedtime.
Personally, I love short films because they tell a story, usually are funny or provide some sort of emotion or quick mini-lesson. They are great for kids and adults to watch together.
The Jolliest Elf
I recently was asked to review a brand new animated short film on Amazon Prime called The Jolliest Elf. And I gotta say it’s a pretty adorable film.
“The Jolliest Elf” is a 3D animated series concept created by the writer and director of the holiday classic “The Elf on The Shelf: An Elf’s Story,” Chad Eikhoff.
It is a pretty cool film. You travel to the North Pole to find three judges, similar to a singing contest show. You meet the show host, Mr. Jingles, and Frosty, the North Pole’s famous Chef and the most famous Elf Glo – She is very glamourous. And our Hair Clip is inspired by her.
Throughout the short, you watch Lil’ Rey, a very tiny reindeer auditions for the show revealing two things. First, she cannot fly very well, and second that she has magic all on her own to share with the world.
You don’t have to take my word for it though. You can watch and see for yourself in this cute adorable short film.

What did you think? Isn’t it adorable?
My daughter loved it. And of course, since Glo is so glamourous, we decided to make a snowflake hair clip inspired by her.
How to Make A Beaded Snowflake Hairclip
Once you have all the materials you will need to set up an area to create. The dining room table or your craft table is a great place. I made this in front of my Dreambox cabinet as it has all my supplies within the craft storage cabinet at an arms reach.
You CAN GET $100 OFF your own DREAMBOX using code: CRAFTYLIFE at Checkout!
You can also check out my Dreambox Setup in this video to see how I have it set up! I absolutely love the Dreambox setup. It really makes crafting so much more fun!
Materials Needed:
- Pipe Cleaners- your choice of color depending on your style
- Cute fun Beads to thread onto the pipe cleaner

Most of these supplies can be found at your local dollar store or even here. The original tutorial and additional photos can be found on The Jolliest Elf blog.
Check out my latest live where my daughter and I create this cute DIY Beaded Snowflake Hairclip:
I’ve listed the steps below for the DIY Beaded Snowflake Hairclip.
Step 1:
Cut pipe cleaners in half
(You’ll need 4 halved pieces for each clip)
Step 2:
Fold the halved pieces in half
Step 3:
Twist two of them together at their bend
Step 4
Twist the 3rd pipe cleaner around the first two
Step 5
Guide the last pipe cleaner through the center of the snowflake so it goes in between the other pipe cleaners
Step 6
Do this again with the top half of your clip
Step 7
Wrap the ends of the fourth pipe cleaner around the top of the clip (you can trim the pipe cleaner if you need to)
Step 8
DECORATE! Add your favorite beads to each section of the snowflake. Don’t be afraid to mix and match. Every snowflake is unique after all!
Step 9
Leave about half a centimeter at the end of each pipe cleaner and fold upward so the beads stay in place (You can dab a bit of hot glue to secure if needed) and you’re ready to rock your very own ~Glo inspired~ snowflake hair clip!
What do you think? I absolutely love the way it turned it out. My daughter had fun creating this little DIY craft too and plans to make a few for some of her school friends as gifts.
She of course rocked her new Snowflake Clip to school the next day showing off her crafty talents.
Make sure to check out the animation film and happy crafting!
