Boy Bathroom Makeover
My boys are growing up very fast and it was time that I gave them a boy bathroom makeover since the bathroom they use was a mix between a guest bathroom and infant looking decor. In this DIY bathroom update, I’m going to show you a few things that I did under a small budget to update their bathroom.
First of all, when we look at the bathroom beforehand, it was just kind of the builder grade paint finish and it just had a shower curtain and a couple of towels that we got from our wedding nine years ago.
While they’ve held up pretty well, over the years, it just isn’t anything exciting. If you have boys, you might know that they can be messy at times, and I kind of wanted to give them a bathroom that they can be proud of and hopefully be excited about to try to keep clean and organized.
Before we started with this update, we actually replaced the tile when we updated our kitchen. The tile was the exact same tile in our kitchen, so when we updated it, we also purchased enough to update this bathroom. The bathroom is not the far from our kitchen, and for consistency in our home we opted to do it at the same time.
When I went to looking through Pinterest to get some ideas on boys and boy bathrooms, I came across another blogger’s post and fell 100% absolutely in love with the shower curtain she had for her boys’ bathroom.
I love that shower curtain because it’s not anyone specific theme. However, it’s more of an adventure outdoors theme and it also includes their two favorite colors, blue and green. So, I thought this shower curtain would be perfect for our bathroom and decided to purchase the exact same one which you can see here. If you like the shower curtain as much as I do, then you can actually purchase from society6. It is called the Long Road at Night.
I also found some really cute ones on Amazon and this was a close 2nd for our boys’ bathroom makeover.
When it came to actually decorating and adding storage to the boys’ bathroom, I, first of all, wanted to get rid of the old shower … Or the old towel rack. The towel rack that we had is just the standard builder’s grade that’s mounted into the actual drywall. I wanted to remove this and actually add a towel rack that allows for more towel to hang in a more aesthetic looking feel.
I actually took a piece of board that we had in our garage and painted and antiqued it and added some hooks to kind of place over the old towel rack’s place. You can see here that the four towels that we hang, hang really nicely.
For the storage above the toilet, I decided to purchase a rack that I got from Kirkland’s that provided some storage and some décor that fit into the adventure theme. I purchased this lantern and you can get one similar here and then I added this basket that holds all of the boys’ washcloths. When it’s bath time, they’re really easy to grab and scrub-a-dub-dub in the tub.
The wall color I chose was a color that we actually used throughout our house. Since I already had some of this lying around, I decided to go ahead and paint it that same Sherwin-Williams Perfect Greige color. It really looks good with the blues and greens in this room, and with the rustic vibe of the blacks and the browns that I used on the décor.
Finally, for the wall décor, I decided to do two pictures that were similar another design I found on Pinterest. However, I kind of wanted to make them my own. You can read exactly how I made that DIY paint stick art here in another post. It’s really, really cute and I really love the way it turned it, and it blends so nicely with the colors in the rest of the bathroom.
The best part about this bathroom makeover is that it was simple, easy to do, and not expensive at all. I did the updates while my boys were at school during the day. When they came home, I showed it to them and they absolutely loved it.
Here’s the before one more time…
And here it is after…
They now have an adventure boy bathroom specific to them that can get ready in and enjoy for years to come.
