Every year my kids and I have a tradition where we layout cookies for Santa along with some carrots for the Reindeer. We also have this crazy real-looking magical key that we leave out on our front doorstep just before going to sleep.
The kids love this tradition and so do I because I can finally get to the Santa activities if you know what I mean. Wink.
The plate that we have used over the past eight-plus years has varied. We started with a ceramic one that was painted when our first son was born. Then we added a reindeer trivet for carrots.
We have used a variety of plates and things since then to fit all the things until now.
This year we will be using this adorable DIY Santa Cookie tray that I created.
Making the DIY Santa Cookie Tray
I recently shared my process for making this craft kit on my Facebook page where I go live showing new craft ideas. If you don’t follow me there, I’d love to have you over there in our community. I am also sharing new craft ideas.
Below is the video I created showing how I decided to personalize this kit.
When you purchase the craft kit from the shop it will come carefully packaged in a box including the materials you will need to make the project. (Simple materials such as paintbrushes, pliers, and glue/glue guns are not typically not included).
This Kit Includes:
- Round Wood Base – about 16 inches round.
- Tray Stencil
- paint and foam brush (other brushes not included)
- paint sponges
You will need your own stain and paint. SO make sure you gather up the supplies you need before making this cute tray.
Once you have all the materials you will need to set up an area to create. The dining room table or your craft table is a great place. I made this in front of my Dreambox cabinet as it has all my supplies within the craft storage cabinet at an arms reach.

What do you think? I just love this DIY wood sign kit. You can the craft kit from the shop you want to make one similar. The best part is that it includes all the materials and supplies you need to make this project!!!

Love the Santa cookie tray. Do I have to worry about it being food safe?

I would use the food-safe version of mod podge over top of it if you plan to use with food versus as only decor.
