DIY Shamrock Home Decor
Create this St. Patrick’s Day Rainbow Shamrock home decor door hanger using items mostly from the Dollar Tree. This rainbow-painted Shamrock will brighten any space within your home. I added this simple and easy DIY piece to my coffee bar for a fun and festive look.
With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, I thought it would be cute to make something a little less traditional than the normal green shamrock to display in my home.
I don’t typically decorate for St. Patty’s Day, as it not a big holiday for us. However, we do recognize the day, and somewhere down the line in my family’s genealogy, there is a teeny tiny bit of Irish in us.
ÂSo, throwing a little attention to the day couldn’t hurt, right? And who wants to risk getting pinched? Not me!
Plus, my kids kind of get a kick out the day at school so having a few lucky charms sprinkled around our coffee bar makes for a fun holiday to kick-off Spring.
A Rainbow-Painted Shamrock
While walking through a store a few weeks ago, I was inspired by Shamrock that was created with slats of wood similar to shiplap. I do love shiplap! However, this shiplap was a little different. Each piece was painted in color from the rainbow.
A first, I thought how cute that would be, and it is different than the normal green Shamrocks you see everywhere.
After about a minute, being the DIY girl I am I knew I could recreate this cute piece by using items from the Dollar Tree. And that’s exactly what I set out to do.
I shared the DIY in the making on my Facebook Page Live, which you can catch the replay here. And by the way, if you don’t follow me on Facebook – go there and Like the page and turn on the notifications. I go LIVE every Wednesday night (mostly)!
I love a good DIY, especially one that is a dupe form a more expensive product. Since this is not the most celebrated holiday, I don’t mind spending a few dollars to decorate for the occasion, versus upwards to $100 on decorations I will only display a few days.
Nonetheless, I love living live seasonally, as I’ve mentioned before, so a splurge here and there can’t hurt. But, as the Crafty Life Mom that I am, why spend more when you can make it for less!

Painting the Shamrock
Once you have all the materials you will need to set up an area to create. The dining room table or your craft table is a great place. I made this in front of my Dreambox cabinet as it has all my supplies within the craft storage cabinet at an arms reach.
You CAN GET $100 OFF your own DREAMBOX using code: CRAFTYLIFE at Checkout!
You can also check out my Dreambox Setup in this video to see how I have it set up! I absolutely love the Dreambox setup. It really makes crafting so much more fun!

Wooden Shamrock – Dollar Tree ( I also used the wooden banner from a second Dollar Tree wood blank)
Paint – Chalk paints or acrylic paints work great
Lucky Vinyl Decal – or any decal you choose. (You can get the SVG file or You can purchase here)
Hot glue and a glue gun
Putting it All Together
Once you have it all painted in the stripes or solid color, glue the banner onto the Shamrock. I added my decal, and then some glitter to highlight the shape of the wooden banner piece.
