Creating Custom Gift Orders
When it comes to running a craft business creating custom gift orders is just one of the many types of orders I receive each week. One of my favorite things to do is to create a custom item that someone is planning on giving to someone else as gift. Â Whether it be jewelry, a shirt, or some odd little monogrammed something I always end up going through the same thought process every time.
Every Custom Order
I tend to think about what it is exactly that they want, the process in which I’m going to use to create it, and what supplies I need.
But but that’s not exactly what I mean…. Even though I do not often times know the true recipient of the item I start to think about the person receiving it.
During my creative process I start to think about who they are, what do they do, how do they act? I begin imagining the person as if they are sitting next to me, or having a conversation with me. Then I start thinking about their personaility and what joy or happiness they must have brought the person who ordered the item, and how special the relationship is that the two of them must share for the gift giver to order such a to unique personalized item.
Creating Custom Order Gifts
I was asked to create this beautiful sleep shirt for this customer’s daughter. She gave me free reign on the colors, font and overall design in creating this custom gift order.  I knew I needed to have gold and silver on it to give it some it some sparkle and shine, a pink heart representing the love between them being so sweet, and of course a hallo to represent the Angels.  This customer told me that every night she always tells her daughter these words no matter what, this is how they end their conversation, say goodnight or goodbye. Her daughter is grown and the two talk everyday and she said she ha told these words since she was a very little girl and still tells them to her today. It is just something unique and special that the two of them share, between the two that they will always have.  “Goodnight, I Love You, Sleep with the Angels”.
It is simple and sweet. And it reminds me of the book Love You Forever that has the famous words ” I love you for Always, As long as I’m Living my baby you’ll be.” I’ve read this book to my babies several times, as I am sure most mothers have. Its a great story and its words are so true for so many.
Creating pieces that are timeless keepsakes
I imagine in the years to come this mother and daughter will continue their tradition of saying these words and the daughter will pass these words on down. I felt honored to create this custom gift and am happy about how it turned out. However, the crafting part aside, it is the meanings behind it and the love between this family that it represents is really brought out truly the joy I had in creating it.
Do you have a special phrase or words you say to your children or parents? Is it something unique you hope to passed down as a time honored tradition for years to come?
